It is estimated that around 100,000 people took part in the event in Paris alone. To avoid riots similar to those that have occurred during other demonstrations, such as those that occurred on Friday in Lyon, which left several people injured, including three law enforcement officers, more than 20,000 police officers were mobilized for Saturday’s protests .
Following the announcement of early elections, several left-wing parties and forces came together to challenge the election law, leading to the creation of a new Popular Front. Francois Hollande, former French president (2012-2017), will be the candidate of this alliance, which aims to stop the rise of the far right.
