Daesh members took two guards hostage in a prison in the Rostov region of Russia

Daesh members who took at least two prison guards hostage in a pre-trial detention center in southern Russia’s Rostov region were killed after Russian special forces entered the facility to quell unrest.

The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia reported the beginning of the unrest, adding that the incident occurred in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in the city of Rostov-on-Don, the capital of the region.

The kidnappers, including some already convicted of terrorism offences, broke out the bars of a window in their cell and entered the guards’ quarters, where they took at least two prison guards hostage.

After declaring the mutiny, Russian troops entered the premises and began shooting, ultimately killing the prisoners. Footage of intense shooting is circulating on social media.

Russia has been the target of several attacks for which the jihadist organization has claimed responsibility. On March 22, gunmen opened fire at a concert hall near Moscow, killing at least 144 people and wounding hundreds. It was the deadliest attack on Russian soil since 2004.
