Government delivers Revita to communities affected by fire in Pedrogan Grande

This Monday, the government decided to transfer the remaining 1.3 million euros from the Revita fund to municipalities in the north of the Leiria district, which were affected by the Pedrogão Grande fire in 2017.

The goal is for the money to be used in “projects to support the population,” Youth and Modernization Minister Margarida Balceiro Lopez said at the end of a meeting with mayors.

The Revita fund was created with money raised through popular solidarity and has so far been used to rebuild houses burned down in a fire that killed 66 people and injured more than 250 seven years ago. This Monday was a day of honor and remembrance for victims who “will never be forgotten,” said Dina Duarte, president of the Victims Association, as she laid a wreath at the memorial.

“Don’t ask us to remain silent, we are talking about collective memory and therefore we will always have a voice to say what is wrong,” stressed Dina Duarte, who hopes that “the words of the victims will resonate.”
