This Tuesday, the PSD appointed to the Council of State the President of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, and again its number one activist, Francisco Pinto Balseman.
This information was provided to Lusa by an official source in the leadership of the Social Democratic bench. The same source said that this is a joint list of the SDP, PS and Chegi.
The PS nominated its secretary general, Pedro Nuno Santos, and party president Carlos Cesar, while Chega nominated its leader, Andre Ventura.
In the previous legislature, when Rui Rio was still president of the PSD, the Social Democrats appointed economist and former finance minister Miguel Cadille and former prime minister and party founder Francisco Pinto Balseman to the body, both of whom will remain.
Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon and top of the list of the National Council under current PSD president Luis Montenegro, will be the new addition of the Social Democrats to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s advisory body.
Elections for the five members who will be appointed by the Assembly of the Republic to the Council of State, the political advisory body of the President of the Republic, are scheduled for Wednesday in Parliament, with votes counted using the Hondt method.
In the previous legislature, five representatives proposed by the PS and PSD were elected on a joint list (Manuel Alegre, Carlos Cesar, Sampaio da Novoa, Francisco Pinto Balseman and Miguel Cadille), while Chega presented an alternative list but failed to elect anyone. .
If the agreement were now repeated with the participation of only the PS and SDP, Chega on his own list would still be able to elect one of the five names to the State Council with a high probability, since it currently includes more than one-fifth of the deputies.
According to the constitution, the Council of State is composed of “five citizens elected by the Assembly of the Republic in accordance with the principle of proportional representation for a period corresponding to the duration of the legislative body.”
