PS says Parliament has until the end of the month to debate the IRS cut in July.

On Wednesday, the PS said that the IRS cut in June does not depend on the adoption of the Social Democratic proposal on the specialty this Wednesday and that the government party has until the end of the month to negotiate.

At a press conference in the Assembly of the Republic, Socialist MP António Mendonça Mendes said that the IRS cut in July does not depend on the adoption of this proposal at the meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee this Wednesday.

The Socialist says he is “very difficult to understand what might happen in tomorrow’s vote” and that he hopes negotiations will continue “within the parliamentary term, which ends on May 31.”

“This is not incompatible with the entry into force on July 1, because the source withholding table will depend only on the government decree, and therefore, if there is parliamentary consensus, as the PS wants, the government has all the conditions to do this. this order will take effect on July 1,” Mendonça Mendez said.

The MP said he was confident that “the SDP wants to reach an agreement on the IRS” and that it would therefore make “an attempt to hold parliamentary negotiations” which, while criticizing the Social Democrats, “are not negotiations of a fait accompli.”

The PS insisted that the replacement text presented by the SDP was “one-sided” and not the result of negotiations between all parties. The Socialists have already made concessions, “but there is no consensus yet,” explained the vice-president of the PS parliamentary group.

The former Secretary of State for Finance explained that his party was considering the proposal from the Social Democrats and the Centrists, but there seemed to be a defense on the part of the Government of “reducing marginal rates at the highest levels”, without taking into account greater distributive fairness.

“What distinguishes the Government and AD’s position from that of the PS is that the Government continues to insist that 50% of the available fiscal margin be distributed to the 10% of people who earn the most. It seems to us that it is not balanced,” he added.

The government’s proposal, the socialists say, offers something “really unfair” and that the PS wants to ensure that, for example, someone who earns 1,500 euros a month will receive an additional profit of 131 euros, which is “above what the AD proposes, which is 92 euros.”

The SDP and SDS-PP this Wednesday called on the PS and Chega to clarify their positions on the IRS cuts and allow the IRS cuts “in July or August”, leaving the “guerrilla games”.

At a press conference, the parliamentary leaders of the two parties supporting the government, Hugo Soares (SDS) and Paulo Nuncio (SDS-PP), presented a text replacing the executive proposal, which was reduced to a specialty without a vote – and which they want it to be adopted Wednesday by the Committee on Budget and Finance and voted on in plenary on Friday in a general, special and final global vote.

Hugo Soares asked the parties not to hide behind formal procedures and to postpone the vote on the admission of the text of the PSD/CDS-PP replacement to the Finance and Budget Committee, scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m.

“I want to call on the parties not to hide in the budget committee, to recognize the text and vote on it in any way on Friday at the plenary session,” he said.
