Swimmers Diogo Ribeiro and Mariana Cunha finished first and second respectively this Wednesday in the 50m butterfly final on the second day of the Spanish Open in Palma de Mallorca.
Diogo Ribeiro won in 23.23 seconds, a new championship record, ahead of Spain’s Mario Molla Yanez (23.50) and Alberto Lozano Mateos (23.67).
Mariana Cunha, on the other hand, was second with a personal best of 26.97 seconds, just behind Venezuelan Lismar Lyon, who set the competition’s fastest time of 26.75.
Miguel Nascimento was 12th in the 50m butterfly with a time of 24.54 seconds and Ana Guedes was sixth in the women’s event with a time of 27.56, a long way off her national record of 26.58.
In the 100m breaststroke, Francisco Quintas reached the 18th world mark with a time of 1:04.21 minutes.
On the first day of competition, Tuesday, Mariana Cunha was second in the 100m butterfly and Joao Costa was third in the 100m backstroke.
