The Chamber of Caminha approved the Eurocity Foz do Minho project with neighbors from Galicia

The Chamber of Caminha approved this Wednesday the creation of a fourth Eurocity between Alto Minho and Galicia in Spain, which will be called Foz do Minho and will also include the cities of A Guarda and O Rosal.

The proposal and project for the creation of the Eurocity, to which Lusa had access, now comes to the consideration and approval of the Municipal Assembly of Caminha in the district of Viana do Castelo.

In the document, the three municipalities agree to create the Eurocity of Foz do Minho, the purpose of which will be to “monitor, promote, coordinate, support or carry out cross-border cooperation activities.”

“The municipalities of Caminha, A Guarda and O Rosal are aware of the need to deepen and strengthen existing cooperation in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens and to establish commitments that allow progress in this cooperation, promoting economies of scale through the creation of a Eurocity,” adds offer.

On May 10, the mayor of Caminha informed Lusa that the Spanish municipality of O Rosal wants to merge with Guarda in Galicia and the municipality of Caminha in Alto Minho, forming a fourth Eurocity between the two border regions. .

“Eurocity provides not only the exchange of equipment, but also a cultural and sports program. We want to add dynamism to the line between the three municipalities,” said Rui Lages.

On this occasion, the mayor specifies that on the Portuguese side, the Eurocity constitution will have to pass through the Northern Regional Commission for Coordination and Development (CCDR-N). In Spain, it will have to be assessed by the Junta of Galicia.

The Alto Minho/Galicia Euroregion has three Eurocities between Valença and Tui, Monção and Salvaterra do Minho, and Vila Nova de Cerveira and Tominho.
