This Wednesday, Parliament approved, by 168 votes, a single list of five representatives of the Assembly of the Republic in the Council of State, drawn up as a result of an agreement between the PSD, PS and Chega. Former Prime Minister Pinto Balseman (who already belonged), Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas, PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos, Socialist President Carlos Cesar and Chega leader André Ventura.
The distribution of seats is proportional to party votes. With 50 deputies, Chega had to nominate a candidate, but nothing prevented the parties from submitting separate lists, prompting Livre to denounce “concession to the extreme right” and IL to criticize the inconsistency of Pedro Nuno Santos meeting “next to Andre Ventura.” The PSD candidate for President of the Economic and Social Council, Paes Antunes, lost by one vote in a two-thirds vote.
