Actor Donald Sutherland, known for the films “M*A*S*H” and “The Hunger Games,” has died

Acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland, known for his appearances in films such as M*A*S*H, Ordinary People and The Hunger Games, died this Thursday at the age of 88 after a long illness.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has died. Personally, I believe that he was one of the most important actors in the history of cinema,” you can read in a message published by Kiefer Sutherland. social media.

In the same text, the actor continues: “I was never afraid of a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and no one could ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

Donald Sutherland was born on July 17, 1935 in Saint John, Canada. Over a career spanning more than 60 years, he appeared in nearly 200 films and television. He won an Oscar and captivated audiences with his looks and versatility. From thrillers to war films, he has worked in several genres throughout his career.

According to Deadline, Sutherland made his big-screen debut in Robert Aldrich’s 1967 drama The Dirty Dozen, in which he played Vernon Pinkley. The film was a huge success.

A few years later, he appeared in one of the most striking war films of the second half of the 20th century, “MASH” by Robert Altman, in which he played Hawkeye Pierce, and also appeared in such works as “Invasion of the Rapists”, Philip Kaufman, “Ordinary People” Robert Redford, Fran Rubel Kuzui’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer or, more recently, the Hunger Games saga.

In 2017, he was awarded an honorary Oscar, and a year later the San Sebastian festival gave him the same honor.
