Following the termination of the deal with Ioannidis, Sporting returned to the market in search of a striker, with Chilean Alexandre Aravena back on the list of potential additions.
The Chilean striker has different characteristics from Ioannidis (more powerful and similar to Giokeres), but in his favor is speed, skill and ability to play in all three attacking positions. A versatility that could benefit Ruben Amorim, who relies on a mobile attack and could lose Marcus Edwards (Tottenham are trying to make a comeback) and Pedro Goncalves (Aston Villa) in that defence. The 21-year-old Chilean plays as a winger on both sides and has even had success as a striker. For Catholic University, he scored three goals and had one assist in 13 games. The youngster fits the profile the Lions want in attack. He is a member of the Chilean U23 national team, has a good track record of progress and can count on financial support in the future. Transfermarkt values him at €5 million and was also on Benfica’s agenda.
