Those involved in Operation Influential Person have not been able to familiarize themselves with the case materials or gain access to wiretapping for five months.

The defendants in Operation Influencer did not see the material for five months and did not have access to recordings of the wiretaps they were targeted for four years, the newspaper reported this Friday. To express.

Lawyers last reviewed the files in January at the Directorate Central for Investigations and Criminal Cases (DCIAP) in Lisbon and were unable to make copies. The defense then complained to the investigating judge that they were denied access to materials collected during the November searches and raw wiretap recordings.

In May they managed to gain access to all the materials, but the investigating judge maintained a ban on recording the wiretaps. Several lawyers have asked for a new consultation, which can only take place when the case returns from the Central Criminal Court to the DVIAP.

this week CNN published a telephone conversation between former Prime Minister António Costa and then Minister of Infrastructure João Galamba, which took place in March 2023, about the need to fire the executive president of TAP. The defendants’ lawyers reacted with bewilderment to the publication of the wiretaps.

Telephone interceptions of the trial were directed against Afonso Salema and Rui Oliveira Neves (managers of Start Campus), Diogo Lacerda Machado (lobbyist hired by Start Campus), João Galamba (then minister), Nuno Lacasta (then president of the Portuguese Environmental Agency) and Nuno Mascarenhas (President of the Sines City Council).

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Industry and Trade began an investigation into the information leak during Operation Influencer.
