Georgia and the Czech Republic drew 1-1 this afternoon in the two teams’ second meeting in Euro 2024 Group F in Hamburg, Germany.
The Georgians, who made their debut in the top circles of European football, began to build the result at the end of the first half. The goal, awarded as a penalty by VAR, was scored after yet another bad move by the hapless player. Granac, who scored an own goal in the match against Portugal and made an erroneous kick on the turn.
Before they lost, the Czech Republic had already been betrayed by VAR, who disallowed the Czechs’ goal due to handball in a play in which the ball ended up in the Georgia goal.
Determined not to lose a second match in a row, the Czechs equalized in the 59th minute through Patrik Schick. In the 90th minute, Georgian Lobzhanidze missed a unique opportunity to win, shooting past the goalkeeper.
With this result, Portugal know they are dependent on beating Turkey this afternoon, as well as securing progress to the last 16 and guaranteeing top spot in Group F.
The Czech Republic and Georgia have one point each and occupy third and fourth place in the group, respectively.
