FIFA today upgraded the rankings of five Portuguese referees who are now on the list of international referees for the second half of 2020, including Fabio Verissimo and Luis Godinho.
Leiriense and Eborense are promoted to Groups 1 and 2 of the FIFA refereeing table respectively, but three more Portuguese referees have also been promoted, two of them from futsal, Miguel Castillo, who has been promoted to the elite group, and Cristiano Santos, who is promoted to the group 1, and women’s football referee Katarina Campos moved to group 2.
With this promotion, Portugal now has one professional male football referee in the elite group, Arthur Soares Dias, two in Group 1, Thiago Martins and Fábio Veríssimo, two in Group 2, João Pinheiro and Luis Godinho, and three in Group 3. Miguel , António Nobre and Vitor Ferreira.
Following the end of Jorge Sousa’s career, the number of Portuguese international referees was reduced from nine to eight.
In women’s football, Portugal has four referees on the FIFA council: Sandra Bastos in the elite group, Silvia Domingos in group 1, Catarina Campos in group 2 and Teresa Oliveira in group 3.
Finally, in futsal, five Portuguese referees wear FIFA badges: Eduardo Coelho and Miguel Castillo in the elite group, Cristiano Santos in group 1 and Ruben Santos and Filipe Duarte in group 2.
