French rally driver Sebastien Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landais were hospitalized on Tuesday after an accident during practice for this weekend’s Rally Poland, the team said.
“Seb and Vincent were involved in a traffic accident while scouting for the Polish Rally and were taken to hospital for medical examination,” the Toyota team wrote on social media X.
According to local police spokesman Tomasz Markowski, the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. (local time) near Gołdap, a city about 300 kilometers from Warsaw.
A police spokesman explained that the accident involved a car in which the eight-time world champion and his co-driver were traveling, as well as two other people aged 67 and 69 years old who were traveling in another car.
“They were all injured and complained of pain, so by medical decision they were all taken to hospital,” he added, explaining that Ogier and Landais were taken by helicopter, while the other two victims were taken by ambulance.
The police are investigating the cause of the incident and have not yet disclosed information about the health status of the victims.
Ogier and Landais, who only compete in a few World Championship rounds in this category, won the Croatian Rally in April and the Portuguese Rally in May.
