Tondela City Council President Carla Antunes Borges asked the Health Minister to hold a hearing to highlight the failures in the emergency department at the Candido de Figueiredo Hospital.
During a public meeting of the municipal executive held on Tuesday, Carla Antunes Borges said that the issue had been discussed “for some time” with the administration of the local health unit (ULS) of Viseu-Dau-Lafoynes, which is part of the Candido de Figueiredo Hospital.
“Together with the administration of ULS Viseu Dao Lafoynes, we have noted our concerns regarding the performance of the Tondela Emergency Department, which has increasingly come under increasing pressure due to Viseu Hospital’s emergency plans and now, most recently, due to the overnight closure of the pediatric emergency department . [desde 1 de junho]”, he decreed.
Because she is concerned about what is happening in the emergency services in both Tondela and Viseu, the Social Democratic mayor has demanded hearings from Health Minister Ana Paula Martins, as well as from the board of directors of ULS Viseu Dão Lafões, who is resigning.
The latter has already taken place, but Carla Antunes Borges said she remains concerned because “strangely and even surprisingly, it is only now, after various meetings with the board of directors over the years, that, firstly, it was noted that “What’s happening in the emergency department is a systemic problem.”
“We are deeply concerned about the functioning of Tondela’s emergency departments, we understand that it is necessary to look at this service and find solutions so that our citizens and all users of this hospital department can receive professional support and take care of their health. needs,” the mayor emphasized.
During the council meeting, Carla Antunes Borges reported that work is underway to move the Tondela Family Health Unit (USF) into containers installed next to the municipal pavilion so that the current health center building can be repurposed.
The work budget is €1.7 million and is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
