AM de Lisboa advocates the immediate construction of a new airport in Alcochete

On Tuesday, the Lisbon Municipal Assembly approved proposals by the PCP for the immediate construction of a new airport in Alcochete and the PEV to recognize the environmental damage caused by not closing Humberto Delgado Airport.

In addition to these two proposals addressed to the government (PSD/CDS), the Assembly made possible a vote of welcome to the PSD on the announcement and public presentation by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro of the location of the new Lisbon airport in Alcochete. , which included the Terceira-Tejo ferry and the high-speed train, “extremely important and structuring works for the development of the country, the Lisbon agglomeration and in particular the city of Lisbon.”

This first point of the welcome vote was approved by the votes against BE, PEV, PCP, the unregistered MP Margarida Penedo (who left the CDS), PAN and PPM, the abstentions of Livre, two independent MPs from Citizens for Lisbon (elected by the PS/Livre coalition), PS, MPT, IL, Aliança and Chega, and votes in favour of PSD and CDS.

Another possible point is to salute the Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, “for the speed, responsibility and determination with which he approached and implemented this structural project of national interest.”

The PCP proposal, in which six points were voted on separately and all were approved, with a majority of votes against right-wing parties including PSD, HDZ and Chega, states that “the decision to build a new Lisbon airport on the territory where Alcochete is currently shot should carried out as quickly as possible, without delays or delays of any kind of maneuver and, if necessary, with the adoption of exceptional measures (at legislative and other levels) that are justified.”

Among the points is “a complete rejection of any increase in traffic at Humberto Delgado Airport, as well as the expansion work that makes it viable,” recognizing the need to reduce this traffic and demanding a ban on night flights and the immediate adoption of measures to minimize it. and compensation for the consequences caused by the operation of the airport until its final closure as soon as possible.

The PCP also proposes to “consider the full use of existing and functioning infrastructure such as Beja Airport” in order to “accelerate the deactivation of Humberto Delgado Airport.”

Another approved proposal by the PKP is to begin an “immediate” broad public consultation process on the future use of land at the current Lisbon airport.

The PEV proposal, also voted point by point, recommends that the government “acknowledge the damage, environmental for the affected population and economic for the built heritage itself, by not closing the Humberto Delgado Airport.”

The PSD, unregistered deputy Margarida Penedo, MPT, NPM, CDS and Chega voted against this item, IL and Aliança abstained, and BE, Livre, PEV, PCP, two independent deputies from Citizens Por Lisbon, PS and PAN voted for it.

Another recommendation is to assess the environmental impact of possible improvements aimed at ensuring the smoothness of airport operations or increasing operational efficiency, always without increasing capacity.

PEV also proposes to recognize the need to address the recent changes made to the approach, landing and take-off routes at Humberto Delgado Airport, which affect neighboring municipalities, and to continue working on the rapid development of the new airport space without territorial expansion of the current airport.

During the meeting, the deputies also approved the recommendations addressed to the Chamber, namely from the MPT on the transparency and clarity of data regarding municipal heritage, from the PAN on the protection of Lisbon trees and from the PEV on the evaluation of the implementation of the Municipal Ordinance on Lisbon Trees and for the assignment of a toponymic tribute to the university professor Victor Vladimir Ferreira (1934-2012).
