Catalytic converter thieves ram two PSP cars

The PSP caught two men breaking into cars on Lumiara Street in Lisbon late Thursday night. One of the robbers was detained on the spot, and the second got into the car and disappeared. While fleeing, he collided with two patrol cars and nearly ran over two agents.

The police intervention took place at 22:40 on Jaime Lopez Diaz Street. At least four agents were called and arrived in time to see the robbers lying under the cars and in possession of tools normally used to steal catalytic converters. One was soon arrested, but the second took an aggressive stance. He got into the escort car that the couple of robbers had at the scene and drove off. Two uniformed agents who stood in the path of the car swerved in time and avoided being hit.

Before leaving the scene, the attacker also rammed two PSP vehicles that were there. This caused damage that had not yet been accounted for this Friday. A warning was given and the PSP investigators’ team located the abandoned vehicle used in the escape and towed it to the police park.

The suspect, detained at the scene of the theft, was taken to the police department. The owners of the stolen cars filed a complaint against the man.
