“At 31, if I went back, I would do everything the same. I won’t regret this change. I am sure that in the coming years I will say the same things that I say now,” Rafa said on Thursday in his presentation as Besiktas’ reinforcements for the next three seasons.
The striker, who left Benfica for the Turks on a free transfer due to his contract expiring, expected the decision to be easy. “I am here because I want to win titles and help the team win the trophies it deserves. That is why I chose Besiktas. It was an easy decision. When they offered me, I already had experience playing here and I felt the atmosphere. The fans are crazy about football, they love football,” said the Portuguese player, who will earn €6 million per season and will also be entitled to an €8 million signing-on bonus.
At the presentation ceremony, Rafa made it a point to leave a promise to the fans of the Turkish team: “I promise to always work hard every day and in every game I will give my all for this team, against any opponent.”
