This Friday, Spain proposed to FIFA to host the 2030 World Cup matches in 12 stadiums, six of which are planned in Morocco and three in Portugal, as part of a joint and unified bid.
At a meeting held in Agadir, Morocco, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), together with the Spanish High Sports Council, proposed, according to the EFE news agency, the construction of a dozen stadiums in an attempt to satisfy the 12 clubs that had expressed their willingness to host the event.
The purpose of the tripartite meeting was to “make final decisions regarding the number of stadiums, their geographical distribution and the distribution of games by country”, without producing a final document with these data.
The final details of the proposal, due by the end of July, have been discussed by partner countries, but without a final decision on these various aspects.
At the meeting, several points of the project were analyzed and “adjustments” were made to it, which was highly appreciated by the Spanish Federation and highlighted the “excellent cooperation established between all parties involved.”
Although the Iberian-Moroccan candidacy is the only one, the official dossier must be submitted to FIFA by July 31.
Portugal, Spain and Morocco will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, FIFA announced last October.
Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will also host three matches of the 2030 World Cup to celebrate the centenary of the competition, which was first held in Uruguay in 1930.
