Storm in Dortmund interrupts match between Germany and Denmark

The match between hosts Germany and Denmark was interrupted on Saturday after 35 minutes due to bad weather that hit Dortmund, the stage of the second match of the 1/8 round of Euro 2024.

About 10 minutes before half-time, with the score still ’empty’, a thunderstorm hit Signal Iduna Park and English referee Michael Oliver, pointing to lightning visible in the sky, ordered both teams off the pitch.

After the players returned to their locker rooms, heavy rain began to fall, including hail.

Germany and Denmark will compete in the second round of 1/8 of Euro 2024 after Switzerland beat Italy 2-0 in Berlin thanks to goals from Remo Freuler (37 minutes) and Ruben Vargas (46 minutes), avoiding a meeting with the title holders.

In the quarter-finals on Friday in Stuttgart, Germany or Denmark will face the winner of the match between Spain and Georgia on Sunday, starting at 21:00 local time (20:00 in Lisbon) in Cologne.
