The Romania-Netherlands and Austria-Turkey games, refereed by Artur Soares Dias, will determine on Tuesday the last two teams to reach the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Football Championship, which already includes Portugal.
Of the four teams taking part in the final day of the last 16, only the Dutch have previously been European champions, in 1988 in Germany (still divided at the time), the host country of this year’s tournament, until July 14.
Despite finishing third in Group D behind Austria and France, the Dutch team will take on Romania, the winners of Group E, where all teams finished level on points, in a game starting at 18:00 local time (17:00 in Lisbon), in Munich.
Sensational winners of a group that included world champions France, Austria will have to confirm that status against Group F runners-up Turkey, who lost 3-0 to the team of corners.
The clash between Austria and Turkey, which will mark the end of the 16th round of Euro 2024, will kick off at 21:00 (20:00) in Leipzig and will be conducted by Portuguese referee Artur Soares Dias.
The winners of Tuesday’s games will face each other in the “quarters”, a stage which Portugal, the 2016 champions, qualified for on Monday by beating Slovenia 3-0 in a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw in normal time and extra time.
The Kinas team will face France in a rematch of the Euro 2016 final on Friday at 8pm, after Spain and Germany face each other later in the day at 5pm. England and Switzerland will compete for second place in the semi-finals the following day.
