“The president did everything he could to continue representing the club, but it was an irresistible offer.” That’s how Kika Nazareth came close to a transfer from Benfica to Barcelona for €500,000 plus goals, a sum that sets a national record in women’s football.
The 21-year-old forward did not hide his “bittersweet” feelings on the “happiest” moment of his move to Barcelona and the “saddest” moment of his farewell to Benfica. “I was very happy. I am a Benfica fan and I will remain one. One day I will return. This is, of course, a quick meeting, not a farewell,” he said, adding: “I am leaving Benfica after a year in which we won all the national competitions. I am leaving in the best possible way, I will take on a new project that will bring me new challenges and new experiences in this career that is just beginning.” And finally, he left the floor to the fans: “Thank you is not enough, it is not enough to express and thank everything that the Benfica fans have done for me.”
