Three people have died after being hit by a man suspected of being drunk or high on drugs in New York City, United States, on Thursday.
As a crowd celebrated in a park in a North American city, a pickup truck drove “at high speed” into an intersection, onto the sidewalk and struck a group of people, police reported, citing local media.
People celebrated July 4, the American Independence Day, which is widely celebrated throughout the country.
The driver, identified by authorities, is Daniel K. Hayden, 44.
Lucille Pinkney, 59, and Hernan Pinkney, 38, have been identified. The third victim has not been identified but is known to be a woman.
In addition to the fatalities, police initially recorded seven injuries, a figure that rose to eight this morning, including an 11-year-old child. One of the people was hospitalized in critical condition.
