Spaniards gain momentum in Porto’s first test

Fran Navarro, Ivan Jaime (2) and Toni Martinez scored in Porto’s 4-0 thrashing of Sanjoanense in the team’s first preparatory game.

Vitor Bruno’s debut as head coach saw goals from a Spanish trio that was not part of Sergio Conceição’s plans last season. Navarro was loaned to Olympiacos, while Ivan Jaime and Martinez were dropped from the group for the final stretch of the 2023/24 season due to a perceived lack of commitment.

The coach used 25 players at Olival and the first eleven used were: Claudio Ramos; João Mário, Gabriel Brás, David Carmo and Martim Cunha; Gonçalo Borges, Alan Varela, Romário Baro, André Franco; Danny Namaso and Fran Navarro.

Porto remain in the market for a centre-back, but the club’s financial difficulties, as suggested by president André Villas-Boas, mean they are currently unable to sign new players. This Sunday is the team’s first day off since the start of pre-season.
