This Saturday, Francisco Martins improved her all-time Portuguese record in the 200m freestyle during the Arena Lisbon International Meeting 2023 at the Complexo do Jamor pools.
The FOCA – Clube de Natação de Felgueiras swimmer won the distance with a mark of 2:00.96 minutes, improving the previous maximum, which she already held since 2022 (2:01.30).
“I felt like I could break my personal and national record. I came from a high-altitude training where I had a lot of work, a lot of loads, a lot of training, but after meeting in Povoa de Varzim, I felt very good. I feel like I’m not fast, but I’m holding the second half well. I don’t think I’ve ever done the second half so well,” he said, quoted on the Portugal Swimming Federation website.
Another highlight is Diogo Ribeiro, who won the 50m butterfly in 23.77 seconds, in a race where world record holder Andriy Govorov of Ukraine was third with a time of 24.36.
Thiago Neves broke the adapted national record in the 100m breaststroke (S15) in 1:13.66 minutes.
