Chinese President Xi Jinping is meeting in Beijing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who arrived in the Asian country today on an unannounced visit as part of his “peace mission” to Ukraine. According to local media, Viktor Orban is also expected to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The Hungarian leader posted a photo of his arrival in Beijing on his official account on the social network X (formerly Twitter). He was received by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying.
The photograph was accompanied by a short message: “Mission of Peace.”
During a meeting in Beijing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Chinese President Xi Jinping today called for “creating conditions” for direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, state media reported.
“Only when the great powers show positive energy rather than negative energy can there be a ray of hope for a ceasefire in this conflict as soon as possible,” Xi Jinping was quoted as saying by state television CCTV.
China and Hungary “share” essentially the same ideas, the Chinese leader added.
