Canoeist Fernando Pimenta and athlete Ana Cabesinha will be Portugal’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony of Paris 2024, announced this Monday the President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, José Manuel Constantino, at a reception at the Belém Palace.
Fernando Pimenta, who is competing in his fourth Olympic Games, won bronze in the K1 1000m at Tokyo 2020 after winning silver in the K2 1000m with Emanuel Silva in London 2012.
The 34-year-old canoeist will share the honour of being the flag bearer of the Portuguese mission at the opening ceremony scheduled for July 26 with marcher Ana Cabesinha, who will be making her fifth Olympic appearance in the 20km march at Paris 2024.
In 2021, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, postponed due to the pandemic, the flag bearers were Thelma Monteiro and Nelson Evora.
