A collision between a light commercial vehicle and a tractor on Estrada Nacional 17 (EN17) in Sao Romão, Seia, has resulted in the death of the driver of the agricultural vehicle, a Civil Protection source told Lusa.
“It was a collision between a light commercial vehicle and a farm tractor, which resulted in the death of the tractor driver,” the commander of the San Román Volunteer Fire Department told the Lusa news agency.
Nuno Monteiro said the victim was a man “about 60 years old, living in São Romão,” in the municipality of Seia, Guarda district, and the collision occurred on the EN17 road (commonly called Estrada da Beira) in the town of Catraias São Romão.
According to a source from the Subregional Command of Civil Protection of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, the alarm was raised at 2:10 p.m. and 27 operatives were mobilized to the scene, supported by 10 vehicles and a helicopter from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM).
Also at the scene were volunteer firefighters from San Román, the National Republican Guard (GNR) and a Basic Life Support Ambulance (SIV) from Seia.
