Vinicius Junior has apologised for the yellow card that ruled him out of the game against Uruguay

Brazil’s Vinicius Junior on Tuesday took the blame for the two yellow cards that prevented him from facing Uruguay in the Copa America quarter-finals, calling them “unavoidable” and apologizing to the Brazilian people.

“I failed to receive two avoidable yellow cards. And again I watched the elimination from the sidelines. But this time it was my fault. I apologize for that. I know how to listen to criticism, and the harshest, believe me, comes from inside the house,” the Real Madrid winger wrote on his social network after the exclusion of the Canarinha from the Copa America, which is being held in the United States.

According to Vinicius Junior, “it is time to reflect” on the reasons for Brazil’s latest failure and “to know how to cope with the defeat and the feeling of disappointment” that has gripped all the players who have once again fallen out of the game in a competition where the Canarinha are always one of the favourites.

Despite the general disappointment, Vinicius tried to convey a positive and hopeful message, promising between them: “My career with the national team is, fortunately, just beginning. Together with my teammates, I will have the chance to restore our national team to the place it deserves. We will return to the top, I love you, and we will go together!”

The winger was ruled out of the quarter-final game against Uruguay after receiving a yellow card against Paraguay for unsportsmanlike conduct, and another against Colombia for elbowing an opponent, in the second and third rounds of Group D of the Copa America, which is being held in the United States.

In the quarter-final game, Escret was eliminated by Uruguay on Saturday after losing 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the end of regular time.
