Argentina beat Canada 2-0 thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi to reach the Copa America final. Di Maria was in the starting lineup for the Albiceleste. Otamendi came on in the second half.
This is Argentina’s third consecutive final after they have already reached the final of the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 World Cup, winning both competitions. Lionel Messi, the man of the match, was a big name. The 37-year-old Inter Miami player scored one of Argentina’s goals, their first in the tournament, and became the only player in history to score in six different Copa America editions.
Now, reaching the final of the competition for the 30th time in history, Argentina are the 16th seed (tied with Uruguay, both at 15). In the decisive game (Sunday/Monday dawn), the Pampas team will face the winner of the game between Colombia and Uruguay (they played last night).
Messi, however, left open the possibility of leaving the team after the Copa America final, as did Di Maria.
