BBC presenter’s wife and daughters suspect arrested at cemetery

British police have arrested a suspect in the murder of BBC presenter John Hunt’s wife and two daughters in Bushey, on the outskirts of London, authorities said in a statement.

Suspect Kyle Clifford, 26, Louise’s ex-boyfriend, was captured by police on Wednesday after he was allegedly found hiding among gravestones in a north London cemetery.

The man was taken away on a stretcher and taken to hospital, where he is believed to have sustained injuries after apparently attempting to injure himself, according to the Daily Mail.

According to the same source, one of the three victims called 999 (112 in Portugal), while another sent his partner a text message asking him to call the police.

The victims were attacked and killed Thursday with arrows from a hunting crossbow (bow gun) in the home they were living in. The mother, Carol Hunt, was found in the hallway of the home with a crossbow bolt lodged in her chest.

The victims’ husband and father, John Hunt, a horse racing presenter and commentator, was on duty at BBC Radio 5 at the time of the attack and called 911 when he returned home from work on Thursday afternoon.

The Sun newspaper reports that the suspect is the ex-boyfriend of one of the BBC presenter’s daughters, but police have yet to make any official mention of the relationship between the attacker and the three fatal victims.

Hertfordshire Crime Squad Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins said, however, that investigations were still ongoing and the victims had been “formally identified” as Carol Hunt, 61, and her two sisters, Hannah and Louise Hunt, 28 and 26, the old wife and daughters of BBC Radio 5 presenter John Hunt.

Inspector Justine Jenkins criticised the leaking of information about the victims’ identities and confirmed that Clifford was the only suspect, the BBC reported.

Speaking to reporters, Detective John Simpson said initial investigations indicate “this was a deliberate attack and that it was directed at the three people who were killed.”

However, according to the same investigator, the women were attacked with a hunting crossbow (bow gun), admitting that the attacker could have used “another weapon,” which was not specified.

The BBC called the news of the three murders “utterly devastating”.

“Our thoughts are with John (Hunt) and his family at this particularly difficult time and we will provide our full support to them,” the British public broadcaster added.
