The results of national exams taken by about 156,000 secondary school students will be announced this Monday, giving students two days to apply for the second round if they wish to do so.
Guidelines for grading nearly 289,000 national exams for grades 11 and 12, held from June 14 to 28, will be posted today in the schools students attend.
This year, exams were once again made compulsory only for those wishing to enrol in higher education: of the 156,000 students who signed up for the exams, only 57% said they wanted to continue their studies (last year the figure was 59%).
Students who believe the grades assigned are incorrect can request to have their tests re-assigned, but will have to wait until August 8 to learn the new grade assigned, which may be higher or lower.
Students will be able to register for the second stage of exams this week, which will run from July 18 to 24.
On July 22, the first stage of accepting applications for participation in the national competition for access to higher education begins, which ends on August 5, and the results will be announced on August 25.
This is a year of transition between the post-pandemic rules and the new national examination regime.
For 12th-year students, the rules remain the same, but 11th-year students will have to pass at least three exams to obtain secondary education: Portuguese in the 12th year, which becomes mandatory for all students in the sciences and humanities, and two other exams of their choice.
And this year, more girls took the national exams (56% versus 44% of boys).
The tests with the largest number of registered students were again Portuguese (44,421 registered), Biology and Geology (43,281), Physics and Chemistry A (40,290) and Mathematics A (38,732).
