Autopsy results released on six people found dead in Thailand hotel

A Thai hospital said on Wednesday that autopsies on six foreigners, three men and three women, who were found dead in a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, revealed traces of cyanide.

Traces of the deadly, fast-acting chemical were found in autopsies of the bodies and in glasses and a teapot in a room at the luxury Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel, police and the hospital said.

According to ReutersSome interviews with family members of the victims revealed that a dispute arose over debt related to investments.

The hospital said further tests would be carried out. “We can assume that the six died from cyanide,” said Kornkiyat Wongpaisarsin of Chulalongkorn Hospital, adding that further test results “will be available on Friday.”

Thai media initially reported that the deaths were caused by a shootout, but authorities denied this information. Apparently, the victims were poisoned.
