Spanish justice has sentenced a man to eight months in prison with a suspended sentence for racist insults made on an online sports forum against Vinicius Junior and Antonio Rudiger, the Spanish football champions have been revealed.
“The court sentenced the accused to eight months in prison and banned him from participating in the forum. [edição digital do jornal Marca] for 20 months. The suspension of the execution of the prison sentence is conditional on the defendant’s participation in the equal treatment and non-discrimination program,” the Merengue statement said.
According to the note, “the accused was found guilty of two crimes against moral integrity committed against Vinicius Junior and Antonio Rüdiger, both crimes aggravated by the fact that they were motivated by racism and, in the case of Rüdiger, also by disrespect for his religion.”
Vinicius Junior, a vocal campaigner against racism in Spanish football, has been the target of racist abuse in stadiums in recent years, with only a few incidents resulting in sanctions.
