Delegations from Angola and Portugal met this Friday in Luanda to discuss issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation with a view to signing new legal documents, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The meeting, held by Portuguese Ambassador Francisco Alegre Duarte and Ambassador Domingos Silva Coelho, Director of Legal Affairs, Treaties and Litigation of the Angolan Ministry, addressed “issues related to the signing of new legal instruments aimed at consolidating and expanding ties between Angola and Portugal,” as part of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting comes ahead of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro’s visit to Angola, which begins on Tuesday and ends on Thursday.
“In recent years, Angola and Portugal have concluded, in addition to traditional areas, more than 60 legal instruments, especially in the areas of education, health, justice, defense and internal administration, tourism, public administration, digital transition and the blue economy,” the ministry said.
Angola and Portugal established political and diplomatic relations in March 1976 and on June 26, 1978, they signed the first legal document entitled “General Agreement on Bilateral Cooperation”.
Angola declared independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975.
