Donald Trump spoke for more than an hour and a half at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, five days after he was the target of an assassination attempt.
The former president made several promises and criticized the Biden administration. He began by recalling the attack at a Pennsylvania rally and saying he was “lucky he didn’t die.” “In a way, I felt so safe because I had God on my side. I felt Him,” he said.
Without naming Biden, Donald Trump criticized the current administration and claimed that he is the only one who can prevent World War III, guaranteeing that he can stop the war with one phone call.
“Under President Bush, Russia invaded Georgia. Under Obama, Russia seized Crimea. Under this administration, Russia is going after Ukraine. Under President Trump, Russia has accomplished nothing,” he recalled.
“I had no war. Only a war against the Islamic State, and we defeated them. I can stop the war with just one phone call,” he confirmed.
On the Middle East conflict, he promised to rescue American hostages. “It’s good that they return before I take office, otherwise the price will be high,” he warned.
Trump also addressed immigration, promising “the largest deportation in the history of this country” if elected. “The Democrats are destroying Social Security and Medicare,” he charged, justifying it by citing their use by immigrants. He always tried to convey a message of unity, ending by saying he would “make America great again.”
Trump Kissing Dead Firefighter’s Helmet
During the convention, Donald Trump paid tribute to a former volunteer fire chief who died after an attack in Pennsylvania. The Republican held a moment of silence for Corey Comperore and kissed the helmet that belonged to the victim. Comperore, 50, died trying to protect his wife and two daughters. The family was sitting behind Trump when the attack occurred.
Trump’s phrases at the convention
“This election is about making America successful, free and great again.”
“If they took the ten worst presidents in history, they wouldn’t collectively do as much damage as Biden did.”
“The attacker wanted to stop our movement, but the truth is, this movement was not about me, it was about you: patriotic and hardworking citizens of America.”
“People can come to this country, but they must do so legally.”
