Find out what the 10 most dangerous prisons are. None of them are in Europe

Around the world, several prisons house drug offenders, murderers and others serving life sentences. In many prisons, conditions are extremely harsh and human rights are at risk.

These are the 10 most dangerous prisons in the world, says Spanish program “four millennia”:

Black Dolphin Correctional Prison, Russia: Known as the “Prison of Death”, some of Russia’s most dangerous criminals – murderers, terrorists and cannibals – can be found here. Pressure and vigilance from the authorities extreme and no one managed to escape.

ADX Florence, USA: it’s called Like the Alcatraz of the Rockies, the presence of terrorists, gangsters and serial killers is huge. The prison features solitary confinement cells where inmates can spend years with minimal human contact.

Tadmor Prison, Syria: In 1980, government forces killed thousands of prisoners and are considered a symbol terror for dissidents of the Assad regime.

La Sabaneta Prison, Venezuela: Prisoners often have difficulty getting food, water and medical care. However, it was closed in 2013 after a massacre that left 16 people dead.

Bang Kwang Prison, Thailand: one of the features of this prison is the small, overcrowded and very dirty cells. Food and medical care are questionable and Prison guards are regularly accused of abuse.

San Pedro Prison, Bolivia: Violence between prisoners is common and often even guards do not enter the facilities for fear of what might happen to them.

Rikers Island Prison, USA: The prison’s enormous security is what makes it stand out from others. Hundreds of cases of abuse and violence against prisoners by prison authorities have been reported. The establishment will close in 2026.

Gitarama Prison, Rwanda: its peculiarity: it is designed for 400 people, but currently more than 8000 people live in it. Conditions in the prison are appalling: extreme overcrowding, lack of hygiene and no medical care.

Bang Kwang Prison, Thailand: often Prisoners die from disease and malnutrition, and those sentenced to death are shot.

Diyarbakir Prison, Türkiye: This is the biggest nightmare for Kurdish activists from Syria in the conflict with Turkey. They are captured and tortured by Turkish prisoners.
