On Tuesday, two workers were seriously injured in an industrial accident at the construction site of the new Alentejo Central Hospital being built in Évora, a civil protection source said.
A source at the Central Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Authority said the alarm was raised at 11:22 am and that two construction workers were injured when the structure fell.
According to the same source, the two injured were taken by firefighters to the emergency room of the hospital do Espirito Santo in Évora.
In an email response to questions posed by Lusa, the Alentejo Regional Health Authority (ARS), the owner of the work, clarified that two men aged 34 and 40 were injured in the accident at work.
Two workers fell from “the wood they were harvesting in the shipyard area, outside the construction site,” he added, citing the victims were treated on the spot and taken “conscious” to the hospital.
In its response to Luce, ARS do Alentejo also indicated that “The Office of Working Conditions (ACT) has been informed” of the accident at work and that the causes of the accident are “under investigation”.
The rescue operations involved Évora firefighters, the National Institute of Emergency Medical Services (INEM) and PSP, with a total of 14 operators, supported by six vehicles, including an ambulance and resuscitation vehicle (VMER).
