Consumer confidence in the eurozone and the European Union (EU) improved again in July, maintaining its recovery trend and moving closer to its long-term average, the European Commission said on Tuesday.
A preliminary assessment published on Tuesday by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs shows that consumer confidence improved in July this year in the eurozone (plus one percentage point) and in the EU (plus 0.7 percentage point).
“At -12.2 percentage points in the EU and -13.0 percentage points in the euro area, consumer confidence is approaching its long-term average,” the community’s executive services said.
These data are published monthly by the European Commission and are based on consumer surveys.
This month’s consumer confidence indicator is calculated based on consumer survey data from the 26 EU countries (all except Ireland), covering 98.5% in the Union as a whole and 98.2% in the euro area of total private final consumption expenditure.
