José Pires was stabbed 24 times. His son died of 17 stab wounds, and his wife Olga Pires was killed with 10 stab wounds in Bragança in July 2022. The suspects are well known and have already been charged: Nélida Guerreiro and Sidney Martins, a couple known as Portugal’s “Bonnie and Clyde” for several robberies.
The drug-using couple will go on trial for a triple murder in October. The first murder occurred on July 9. Olga was home alone when Sydney hit her in the face, neck, chest and stomach.
Ten days later, the couple struck again. They returned to the house to “take the victims’ lives and steal drugs and money.” They stabbed the father and son dozens of times before setting the house on fire, hoping to erase the evidence of their crimes. The judge realized in record time that Nelida would maintain a relationship with the youngest victim. The couple were eventually arrested in Spain. Meanwhile, Nelida and Sydney were sentenced to nine years and nine and a half years respectively for the Algarve robberies.
