The Portuguese canoe team finished the European Marathons this Sunday in fourth place overall with six medals, three of which were gold, two silver and one bronze, in Poznan, Poland.
On the final day, the team led by Rui Cancio won another gold for K2 juniors João Sousa and Francisco Batista and silver for C2 Rui Lacerda and Ricardo Coelho.
The Portuguese delegation got another podium in K2 from Jose Ramalho, a seven-time European K1 champion, and Alfredo Faria, but the pair could not advance beyond 10th place, 1.25 minutes behind the gold of Denmark’s Soren Maretti and Filip Knudsen, who won in 2:06.25.
Junior Maria Gomes distinguished herself in Poland with two European Championship titles, in K1, short and long distances, missing out on the podium in K2 together with Filipa Lamas, with whom she finished fourth.
Among the seniors, Rui Lacerda achieved three podiums: silver in the long races C1 and C2 (here with Ricardo Coelho), and bronze in the short race C1.
In total, 14 countries managed to win medals at this European Championship in Poland.
