The official dossier of the joint candidacy of Portugal, Spain and Morocco to host the 2030 World Cup was delivered to FIFA at its site in Paris on Monday, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced.
“The whole world fits in our three countries! And so it will be in 2030! We will organize a world championship that will leave a mark that will last for a long time and set new standards for the future of the competition! This is our ambition and we want to celebrate the history of the race, taking care of its future and modernity,” said FPF President Fernando Gomes at the ceremony.
The three-country project, driven by the slogan “Yalla Vamos” and designed to leave a mark “for football, for the world and for the future”, was handed over to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“The bid dossier presented here sets out an agenda for the future that includes the environmental dimension as a structural basis for the event, that combines the needs of the competition with the expectations and future of the cities and populations that will host the World Cup, that promotes inclusion and diversity as a solid foundation on which our entire proposal is based!” added the Portuguese leader.
The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be held for the first time on three continents, and in addition to Europe and Africa, it will also pass through South America, more specifically Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, where three matches of the final stage will be held, as a way of celebrating the centenary of the competition, the first edition of which took place in Uruguay in 1930.
The Federations of Portugal, Spain and Morocco, the three host countries, have reinforced the idea of leaving a true legacy in terms of sustainability, innovation, investment and social impact.
The document details the concept and technical planning in terms of transport, accommodation and security, and introduces the host cities and proposed stadiums.
“Your three countries have already given a lot to football. You have a huge passion for the game, excellent organisational skills and a common vision of what football should be and its values! It is fantastic that you have brought two continents together to achieve the dream of organising the World Cup unites the world, and this candidacy proves it,” the FIFA President praised.
The three Portuguese stadiums that will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup games will be the Estadio da Luz, the Estadio José Alvalade in Lisbon and the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.
In addition, the Estadio da Luz – the only one of the three with a minimum capacity of 60,000 – will host one of the semi-finals of the competition, Portuguese Football Federation President Fernando Gomes announced in April.
The official selection of Portugal, Spain and Morocco as hosts of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be made on December 11 at the FIFA Congress.
