A swordsman Egyptian Nada Hafez competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics while seven months pregnant and managed to reach the last 16 of the race. “What looks like two players on the track is actually three: me, my opponent and my future baby,” reads the athlete’s post on the social network Instagram.
Nada Hafez, 26, beat American Elizabeth Tartakovsky, world No. 10, in the round of 16 before losing to South Korea’s Jeong Ha-young.
The athlete, who has already competed in the 2016 and 2021 Olympics, explained that she decided to publish the news to “shed light on the strength and tenacity of the Egyptian.”
“The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough enough, but having to fight to maintain a balance between life and sport was nothing short of exhausting, but it was worth it. This particular Olympics was different: three-time *Olympian*, but this time with a little Olympian!” he wrote.
