Almost 40 police officers have been injured in unrest on the streets of Southport, where a Portuguese woman and two of her colleagues were stabbed to death

At least 39 police officers have been injured in unrest on the streets of Southport in Britain, where three children were killed and nine injured in a knife attack, police say. Independent.

Merseyside Police say some officers suffered serious injuries including broken bones, lacerations and concussions. At least 39 officers were treated by ambulance services and 27 were taken to hospital. Three police dogs were also injured in the violent protests.

According to the same source, several bricks, bottles and garbage containers were thrown at the mosque and law enforcement officers. Several police cars were also damaged and set on fire.

Assistant Police Chief Alex Gross says the unrest taking place “in a community devastated by the tragic deaths of three young people” is “abhorrent.”

The three girls killed in the knife attack have been identified as Bebe King, 6; Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7; and Alice Aguiar, 9, a Portuguese girl. The 17-year-old gunman was arrested and the knife recovered.
