Italian boxer Angela Carini withdrew from a fight with Algerian transsexual Imane Khelif in the first 46 seconds of the 1/8 finals in the 66 kg category at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Angela justified her refusal by citing pain in her nose after a strong blow from Imane, who showed a higher testosterone level than allowed by the regulations of the last world boxing championship, puts forward Reuters.
Despite failing to comply with the International Boxing Association’s eligibility rules, the Algerian athlete was deemed eligible to compete in Paris.
“I have always honored my country with loyalty,” Carini said with tears in her eyes. “This time I couldn’t do it because I couldn’t fight anymore,” he said after surrendering.
Angela Carini has guaranteed that she will not boycott the fight.
“I put an end to the fight because after the second blow, after many years of experience in the ring and fighting life, I felt a strong pain in my nose,” the Italian assured.
