Portuguese swimmer Diogo Ribeiro missed the 50m freestyle final on Thursday, finishing the second series in eighth place with a time of 22.01 seconds, the 16th and final time in the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 19-year-old swimmer from Coimbra reached the halfway point with the 13th qualifying time of 21.91 seconds, his second-best ever, just behind the national record of 21.87, but failed to reach the final, whose qualification was closed by 21.64, achieved by France’s Manaudou.
Diogo Ribeiro, who hopes to become the second Portuguese to reach an Olympic swimming final after Alexandre Yokochi was seventh in the 200m breaststroke in Los Angeles in 1984, has already finished 28th in the 100m freestyle in Paris 2024 and will also compete in the 100m butterfly, in which he is the world champion.
