Irina Rodriguez, the country’s record holder, qualified for the discus throw final at the 2024 Paris Olympics today with a mark of 62.90 meters, 10th off the qualifying mark, while Liliana Ka was eliminated on the 14th throw with a score of 62.43.
In her fourth Olympic appearance, the 33-year-old doctor from Leiria secured her place in the final scheduled for Monday at 8:30 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. in Lisbon) thanks to her first throw of 62.90 meters in a competition completed with one attempt of 60.54 and one zero.
Liliana Ca, 37, after the best Portuguese result in the discipline, fifth place at Tokyo 2020 and bronze medal at the European Championships in Rome 2024, failed to qualify, dropping to 14th place with a score of 62.43 in the second test after opening the competition with 57.59 and closing with 59.55.
