For maintenance reasons, GNR has temporarily closed some fire stations. There are 4 in Portalegre alone, but this county may not be the only one, and for the same reason there are stations that are about to close or are closing in other places around the country.
Contacted morning PostGNR explains that “these temporary closures are due to the fact that the funds (environmental fund) allocated for the maintenance of this equipment were only available in May and must be used by the end of the year, which requires maintenance to plan for a difficult situation that dictates the temporary closure of some stations in the middle of the fire season.”
The PNP ensures that despite the closure of these observation posts, fire monitoring and surveillance will not be compromised as this work will continue to be carried out by patrols already on the ground and will exercise particular caution in areas affected by fires following the closure of the guard posts.
