This Wednesday, the President of the Republic swore in the new Secretary of State for Agriculture, Gonzalo Calella Rodríguez, in a short ceremony at the Belém Palace in Lisbon.
The ceremony began at 19:15, an hour and a half late from the scheduled date, with the arrival at the embassy room of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, and Prime Minister Antonio Costa.
The delay was caused by the presentation by the government of the PRR, which was attended by António Costa and Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
This short two-minute ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Seu Antunes.
Finally, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Augusto Santos Silva and António Costa welcomed the new Secretary of State and Minister of Agriculture.
Gonzalo Calea Rodriguez was born in Porto in 1981. He holds a PhD in Biosystems Engineering from the Institute of Agronomy and a PhD in Management from the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon.
The new Secretary of State was vice president of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, where he was assistant professor.
The position of agriculture minister has been vacant since January 5, when Carla Alves resigned 25 hours after taking office.
Carla Alves justified the lack of “political and personal conditions” to take office after reporting the seizure of joint bank accounts she had with her husband, the former mayor of Vinhais.
