‘Life gave me a second chance’: Di Maria renews his thirst for titles

Di Maria leaves for another season at Benfica, hungry for titles. On the day that the extension of another season was officially announced, the Argentine hopes for a more successful season than the last, aims for the national title and believes that life has given him a second chance.

“Becoming national champion again with Benfica would be very beautiful. It was my dream last season, I couldn’t make it come true, but I really wanted it. Life has given me a second chance and I hope we can achieve it. This goal will be special for me and for all Benfica fans,” the Argentine told the club’s official media, showing that he is “happy to stay for another year.”

The winger had planned to leave for Rosario Central, but threats against the player and his family changed his plans. However, the motivation remains precisely because of the ambition to accumulate trophies.

“More, more titles! From the moment I started playing until today, I always wanted to win titles, and when you finish your career, that’s what you have left, what you win. Every year I want to win, and this year I will try to win more,” he said.

Di Maria enters the new season as one of the team’s greatest veterans and believes that experience will be important for Benfica.

“It makes me very happy to know that my teammates talk about me like that. I am a normal guy who tries to move forward, always win, achieve all my goals and try to motivate my colleagues, younger and others. “I am at an age that gives me some experience, I try to help them and always do my best to win titles,” he said.

Although he was on holiday after playing in the Copa America, the winger has been following Benfica’s games and is excited by the performances of Roger Schmidt’s side. “I have watched all the games, we have started very well. The team is doing a great job, there are many new players, all this makes me very happy and very hungry to win. I will do my best to help the team in the best way possible,” he said.
